Udinese defender Jaka Bijol is set to miss Saturday evening’s Serie A match against Inter Milan as he will undergo foot surgery.

The Friulani confirm that the 24-year-old Slovenian international will go under the knife, via FCInterNews.

Bijol has been an important presence in defense for Udinese since his arrival last summer.

The Slovenian made the move from CSKA Moscow in the summer of 2022.

And for much of the season ongoing, Bijol has continued to be a regular starter in the Udinese backline.

That was the case under former coach Andrea Sottil. And the returning Gabriele Cioffi has also used Bijol regularly.

The 24-year-old started in the Friulani’s Serie A match away to Roma at the end of last month.

However, in training ahead of Sunday’s match against Hellas Verona, Bijol suffered a stress fracture to his left foot during training.

It had always looked likely that this would cause the Slovenian to spend some time on the sidelines.

And now, Udinese have confirmed that Bijol will have to undergo surgery to correct the problem.

Therefore, there is certainly no question that the Friulani defender will miss Saturday’s match away to Inter.

Udinese Defender Jaka Bijol Out For Inter Clash

For Udinese, Saturday’s match will certainly present a very formidable challenge.

Inter are the current league leaders. The Nerazzurri’s 3-0 win over reigning champions Napoli showed the kind of form they are in.

Meanwhile, Udinese have not really extricated themselves from the relegation battle as of yet.

The Friulani had looked to be on course for an important win against Hellas Verona over the weekend.

However, the Gialloblu equalized late in stoppage time, meaning Cioffi’s side had to settle for a point.

With Bijol out injured, veteran former Watford defender Christian Kabasele started against Verona on the weekend.

On either side of the Belgian were Nehuen Perez and Watford-owned former Benfica defender Joao Pereira.
