Joey Porter Jr. Throws Playful Jabs at Commanders

Steelers-Commanders in Week 10 doesn’t really have a lot of noteworthy headlines, but Joey Porter Jr. and Commanders cornerback Emmanuel Forbes Jr. added a little fire after some playful trashing talking on Instagram Live Thursday.

It’s not clear how Porter and Forbes are friends, but I imagine that they got to know each other during the 2023 pre-draft process. Forbes was selected by Washington at 16th overall out of Mississippi State, while the Steelers scooped up Porter at No. 32.

“We gon pack out the stadium for y’all. That’s what the Steelers always do,” Porter said when Forbes brought up that the Commanders face the Steelers in Week 10. “We gon take care of the fans. Don’t worry about that. When we come to town, we gon’ take care of the stadium, we gon’ pack it up, we gon’ make it look nice and lively. We gon’ put on a show for y’all. We gon’ put on a show for for y’all boys.”

Steelers Nation took over FedEX Field (now known as Commanders Field) in 2016, a 38-16 win on Monday Night Football in Week 1. Steelers fans pack most road venues, but the close proximity to Pittsburgh and the good amount of Steelers fans in the DMV area and surround states should set up for another Black and Gold take over.

Joey Porter Jr. also clowned the Commanders by calling them an XFL team.

“That name is trash,” Porter said about the name-change of Washington’s franchise. “Commanders sounds like an XFL name.”

Week 10’s showdown between the Steelers and the Commanders will be the first meeting between the two teams since the Washington club changed their name to the Commanders. It will also be the first showdown with the Commanders since they drafted former LSU quarterback with the second overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.

The last time that these two teams played, the Steelers entered the game with a perfect 12-0 record. The Washington Football team, the organization’s name at the time of the game, trailed by two touchdowns at one point but rallied to score 13 fourth-quarter points to knock off the Steelers, 23-17.

Since 2000, Pittsburgh own a 5-1 record against Washington with their lone loss coming during that COVID-infested 2020 season.
