Puerto Rican boxing star Edgar Berlanga and Jason Quigley have traded leather.

Berlanga vs. Quigley emanated from Hulu Theater at Madison Square Garden in New York City. In the past, Berlanga would be competing under Top Rank Boxing during the weekend of the Puerto Rican Day parade. Things were different this time as Berlanga and Top Rank parted ways. This was Berlanga's first bout under Matchroom Boxing.

Going into the fight, Berlanga had a pro record of 20-0. This was Berlanga's first bout since July 2022 when he defeated  Roamer Alexis Angulo via unanimous decision. There was some controversy in the bout, as Berlanga attempted to bite his opponent on the shoulder. As a result, he was suspended by the New York State Athletic Commission (NYSAC) for six months and fined $10,000.

Quigley entered this bout as a huge betting underdog. His most high-profile bout came against WBO middleweight titleholder Demetrius Andrade. Quigley was stopped in the second round. A win over Berlanga, would've been huge for Quigley.

Berlanga scored a knockdown in the third round. This followed the first two rounds that saw Quigley have some success with the jab. Quigley was able to recover and avoided danger in the following round.

There was a controversial moment in the fifth round, as the referee scored a knockdown in favor of Berlanga. The replay showed that Quigley went down on the canvas due to his foot getting tied up with his opponent's.

Despite the knockdowns, Berlanga struggled throughout the fight. The Puerto Rican star's trainer often chastised his him in-between rounds for "sleeping."

Finally, in the final round, Berlanga put the pressure on and scored two knockdowns. Quigley survived until the final bell. The judges' score totals were read, and Berlanga was awarded the unanimous decision victory.
